    I Love Mardi Gras

I love Mardi Gras! I love the beads, the fun, the bright colors, the king cake and celebrating the Wise men finding the baby Jesus! As I’ve told you before, I fell in love with Mardi Gras many years ago when we visited some friends in Biloxi. Before then I thought it was all about beer, beads and Bourbon Street. And while for some it is, it is also a family celebration! Of course, my decorating starts with my front door. One of my favorite Mardi Gras decorations is the front door wreath. Which, of course, has a crown! Once you enter my home, to the left of the entry…

    Mardi Gras

Christmas and New Years are over and it’s time to decorate for Mardi Gras! Many years ago, we were fortunate enough to celebrate Mardi Gras with some good friends of ours who live in Biloxi, MS. Ever since then, I have been hooked. I truly love everything about Mardi Gras! The celebrations, the parties, the balls, the parades, the food, the king cakes and all things shiny! Did I mention that I love King Cake?

    Mardi Gras Y’all!

It’s Mardi Gras y’all! While most people are decorating for Valentines, I am walking a tight rope of balancing my Valentines decor with my Mardi Gras decor. I was blessed enough to be in Biloxi, Mississippi over 25 years ago during the Mardi Gras celebration.  Boy did I have fun catching a few beads and attending a few balls.  I also learned  that Marid Gras isn’t all about boobs, beer and beads. It’s also a family celebration.

    Laissez Les Bon Temp Rouler!

Laissez Les bon Temp Rouler! Let the good times roll. Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! I confess that I love Mardi Gras. I know when most of you think of Mardi Gras, you are visualizing Bourbon Street, alcohol and boobs for beads. There is that. But, there are also parades, floats,  great food and family fun. And most of it takes place away from Bourbon street. In fact, Mardi Gras is a coastal celebration. Here are few fun facts about Mardi Gras that you may not know. Mardi Gras is also the celebration of the three wise men finding the baby Jesus.  Hence the King Cake. I make King Cake every…

    Let Them Eat King Cake

Happy Mardi Gras! Yay!!!! I am so ready to eat King Cake! The bakery here at the castle has been hoppin’. It takes all day for me to make King Cake, cuz you know I can’t just make one. One for each of my princes, one for the castle and one for the Hubs to take to work.  Lot’s of work, but so worth it! As I told you all in my last post, Mardi Gras is the celebration of the coming of the Magi (wisemen) 12 days after Christmas, bearing gifts for the Christ Child. Mardi Gras is always on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday which is…

    Happy Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras y’all!  I thank God for good friends.  In a former life my Hubs was a banker at a savings and loan. He was sent to Georgia for a banking conference and was fortunate enough to meet one of the best friends of his life, Dennis. Dennis was from the Gulf coast area and was more than happy to share his life and traditions with us. Before Dennis, I – like many others – thought Mardi Gras was a New Orleans, Bourbon Street thing. It is for some, but simply put, for a large majority it is the celebration of the three Wisemen finding the baby Jesus. Now…
