I’m so excited to be a part of this months DIY Challenge Tablescape Inspiration! Each month our hostess Terrie, from Decorate And More With Tip and more, challenges us to make a fabulous DIY project. This months challenge was to make something for our Thanksgiving table. On a recent trip to Hobby Lobby, I saw the cutest burlap placemats that had words of gratitude printed on one end. I was in a rush and thought that I’d come back later and pick them up for my Thanksgiving table. Can you say bad life decision? Of course, when I went back, they were sold out! My solution? To make my own. Step 1: I found my burlap material at HobLob, for $3.88 per yard, less my 40% coupon. Cut out a 14 x 20 rectangle from the material. One rectangle for each placemat you plan to make. Step 2: Once you have your rectangles cut out, sew one half inch all the way around each placemat. Step 3: Once you have sewn the outer edge, start pulling strings off of the edge to give it a tiny fringe. Sewing around the outer edge of the placemat stops your placemat from unraveling more than you want it to. Step 4: Now to put the words of gratitude on the placemats. You could use any stencil you have to put the words on the end of the placemat, however I didn’t have one that would fit. I made my own stencil using my Silhouette. Step 5: I knew that I probably wouldn’t use these again, so I made my stencil out of vinyl. Simply, cut it out, then using transfer tape, peel it off and stick it onto the placemat. Step 6: Once that was done, it is simply a matter of adding paint. Give each placemat 2 coats of paint. Once the paint has dried, remove the stencil I love that the words on the placemats are subtle. I feel like this DIY is super simple, but has a lot of impact. Which is my kind of DIY! Now my Thanksgiving table is ready for the holiday. Love your dishes too. They look familiar. Trying to figure out where I saw these in the past. Enjoy your day Cindy Tammy October 2, 2019 at 6:34 pm Reply Cindy you certainly could do it without sewing. The dishes were gifted to me by Rita at Panopoly a few years ago. They are Better Home and Garden. Thanks for stopping by! Shae October 2, 2019 at 2:06 pm Reply Your placemats turned out beautifully!!!! Tammy October 2, 2019 at 6:28 pm Reply Thank you Shae! Tammy October 2, 2019 at 6:31 pm Reply Cindy I love the bold colors too, although I don’t use them that often. Every time I get them out to use I wonder why I don’t. Thanks so much! Terrie Tipler October 2, 2019 at 6:11 pm Reply Tammy, I don’t know where to start. I love everything your table has on it. That pumpkin is so darn cute. The napkins are beautiful and the placemats makes it all blend nicely. I love that you made those instead of purchasing them. Love the inspiration you provided for us. Beautiful table. Happy Fall! Tammy October 2, 2019 at 6:32 pm Reply Terrie you are always so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. The napkins were a semi-DIY a few years ago. Pioneer woman napkins with added trim. Thanks for including me in the DIY Challenge! Happy Fall to you too. Dani October 3, 2019 at 12:17 am Reply These turned out so cute! I love that pop of blue! I love the touch of teal with the fall colors. I want to sit down at this table and just enjoy a nice meal with my family and friends. So welcoming! And your DIY…want to make my own now. Wish I had a vinyl stencil tool. Might have to add it to my wish list for Santa ;>). Tammy October 4, 2019 at 1:07 pm Reply Kelli you will love having a Silhouette/Cricket! I use it all the time. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week. Happy Fall! Carol@BlueskyatHome October 4, 2019 at 7:19 pm Reply Tammy, I love burlap and I love stenciling. What a great idea for a holiday runner. Words evoke so much in the way of memories at the holiday time. I have made stencils with my Cricut and now also use those from A Makers’ Studio. Nothing is more special than creating a handmade item for your home decor. Dori October 6, 2019 at 9:24 pm Reply Absolutely beautiful! Love the color scheme and those placemats!
