Some things we kept and some we sold. When it came time for me to choose what I wanted it was hands down my Dad’s toolbox! Actually, I chose two of them. I think my sisters thought that I was crazy! They were dirty and beat up. The trash can was definitely calling! My Dad was a Fireman. On his days off he painted cars. He was definitely a hard working man who believed in building, repairing and making things look better himself. Why have someone else do what you can do for yourself? Looking at this day glow safety orange hand toolbox I’m pretty sure he made it himself with the materials that were on hand. Most would have thrown out this roughly built, stained and worn toolbox, but not me! Everything about it reminds me of my Dad. I love everything about it, except the safety day glow orange color! So I gave it a good sand and started painting. A couple of quick coats of Agave chalk paint and I was well on my way to a prettier toolbox for sure. I love this color. Its darker than duck egg, which is a favorite of mine. Once I the Agave was dry, I gave the toolbox a couple of coats of White chalk paint. Doesn’t it look so much better? My Dad’s toolbox cried out for more of a shabby chic look rather than a perfect, pristine one. As you can see in this close up, I sanded down the white just until the Agave peeked through a little. But not enough for the orange to show. This beautiful toolbox has so many possibilities now! It can be a dish caddy in my kitchen. Or maybe hold all sorts of beautiful things on my coffee table. How about rolled up towels in the bathroom? I couldn’t be happier with my Dad’s toolbox! This is the other toolbox I brought home. I have a feeling this one is going to give me a run for my money! Until next time…. You’ve given it a new life, yet it’ll still hold all the memories of your dad and who he was. The rolling tool box? Hmmm…..how about a bar cart, craft supply chest…..lots of possibilities!
